What is Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy?

Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy is a specialist approach which recognises that many problems have their roots in our past experiences. Difficult experiences in our past can affect how we see the world and how we build relationships. Within the therapy, underlying and often unconscious causes of distress are explored. Feelings and thoughts, memories and wishes, can be brought to the surface and help you make sense of how you feel and behave and interact with people around you. In this way, self understanding can develop. This can enable you to find different ways of being and coping with difficulties in your life.

Sometimes people seek help for specific problems such as loss, or a particular crisis in their lives, but sometimes people may also struggle with longstanding low mood or a loss of meaning in their life and relationships.
